Summary

In the near future, where America has become a police state, one hundred boys are selected to enter an annual contest where the winner will be awarded whatever he wants for the rest of his life.

The game is simple - maintain a steady walking pace of four miles per hour without stopping. Three warnings, and you're out - permanently.

there's so many layers to this story. literally king at his best! he grasps the depth of youth but encapsulates the moral struggles we all face in one beautiful, heart wrenching, debasing story 👌

should be taught along side Shakespeare...

How 'Bachman' aka King manages to create a tale with depth, humanity and interest from such a claustrophobic situation (as he does time and time again is astounding. Characters shine, your stomach will churn and your feet will pound simply from listening.

Walked every step with them

I've always loved this book, but I just wasn't feeling the narrator. The story is raw and terrifying and the narrators voice just didn't fit. Read the book yourself if you can, it'll stick with you, it definitely lost a lot of itself in this recording.

Amazing book, but not the right narrator

I enjoyed the journey here, but I really wanted an extra chapter at the end showing what happens next. i understand why it was ambiguous, but it's just left me feeling unsatisfied.

interesting story, abrupt ending
