About this listen

Liverpool, 1946: the blackout blinds may be coming down, but one family is about to face devastating misfortune.

Dora Evans is finally marrying the love of her life, and her dreams of opening a dressmaking business look as if they might come true. With twin daughters on the way, Dora has everything she's ever wanted. But then tragedy strikes: one of Dora's babies dies in infancy, and a catastrophic fire changes their lives forever. Can Dora save herself, her marriage and her daughter?

A heartbreaking and gripping story of love, loss and hope. Perfect for fans of Nadine Dorries and Rosie Archer.

I really enjoyed this book, Based just after the war when rationing is still in place. Touches on emotional subjects such as cot death, postnatal depression. There’s been some comments about the narrator and her scouse accent but tbh I didn’t notice a problem with pronunciation of some words, so unless you’re from Liverpool I don’t think you’d notice.

Great but have tissues at the ready.

the story is a good story and the narators performance was good as far as the liverpool accent was concerned, but her pronunciation of the iconic Liver birds and Liver buildings was a shambles and also the pronunciation of Kirkby a town in Liverpool which is pronounced KIRBY and not Kirkby, this almost lead me to stop listening, pse make sure the narators research local accents bfor
