The Capitol Building, Washington DC: Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon believes he is here to give a lecture. He is wrong. Within minutes of his arrival, a shocking object is discovered. It is a gruesome invitation into an ancient world of hidden wisdom.

When Langdon's mentor, Peter Solomon - prominent mason and philanthropist - is kidnapped, Langdon realizes that his only hope of saving his friend's life is to accept this mysterious summons.

It is to take him on a breathless chase through Washington's dark history. All that was familiar is changed into a shadowy, mythical world in which Masonic secrets and never-before-seen revelations seem to be leading him to a single impossible and inconceivable truth...

I was sceptical about downloading this book, as I didn't want to be seen to be buying into the Dan Brown 'hype'. However, having heard about some of his previous books, through friends, in the news, etc I decided to give it a go.
I must say I wasn't disappointed. The book hooks you from the start and although some of the final twists became obvious to me fairly early on in the plot, it was an engrossing listen that had me longing to get back into my car for the journey too and from work, where I had 2 hours undisturbed listening each day. I was sorry when it came to an end.

A thrilling story that hooks you from the start

Dan Brown at the height of his powers, a gripping twisting new story with the depth of research and popular references that we're acustomed to. I loved it.

The book was slow paced and the story a little contrived.

The “fables/sayings’ at the beginning of each paragraph were annoying.

Didn’t enjoy this
