Summary

When Queenie Hennessy discovers that Harold Fry is walking the length of England to save her, and all she has to do is wait, she is shocked. Her note had explained she was dying. How can she wait? Emotional without being mawkish, real and yet poetic. Superbly performed and written. If you enjoyed The Pilgrimage you will love this just as much.

This is a moving, sad story about dying. For fans of Last Pilgrimage, it is a "companion" book that tells the other side of the story. Best to read shortly after the first book - some of the details were rather hazy for me which lessens the smiling at recollected events. Queenie's character is very well drawn and beautifully narrated by Celia Imrie. The descriptions of places, people and emotions are very vivid. I think this is probably the best book of the 3 I have read by Rachel Joyce - I liked Harold Fry but this book has more depth of feeling and characterisation.

Having listened to The Unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry I was delighted to discover thouts sequel. it was very moving and extremely well read by Celia Imrie. I didn't want it to end.

If I met Queeny Hennessy she wouldn’t be my cup of tea, I must be honest. All this unrequited love, dear me.
To begin with I really didn’t know if I would finish the book but I was completely caught up by the wonderful characters and life in the hospice, it was in turns laugh out loud funny, and enough to make you wipe a tear from your eye.
Beautifully written and terribly sad but full of joy all at once. The message to us all is live everyday as though it will be your last, one day you will be right.

Sublime, Ridiculous and Delightful

Chose this because I loved The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry' and did enjoy it. The narration was good and worked really well and it was a cleaver idea to write the 'other half' of Harold's story but I didn't feel like it quite hot those heights.

Still enjoyed this but not as good as Harold Fry
