About this listen

Dawn of Fire Book 6

The zealous Black Templars and the Order of Our Martyred Lady hold a shrine world against the Death Guard – a guttering light in the darkness.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Marc Collins shows us how desperate the fight can get in the swirl of the Indomitus Crusade. Every world defended is worthy of celebration, no matter the cost.

THE STORY

The Indomitus Crusade burns across the stars, while new threats emerge to challenge the Imperium's resurgence.

As the Kingdom of Iron is secured and the Primarch Reborn's thoughts turn to future salients, the Arch-enemy strikes back against the Indomitus Crusade's forces. The shrine worlds of the Golden Chain are all but broken, and only Velua remains defiant. Canoness Irinya of the Order of Our Martyred Lady and Champion Gaheris of the Black Templars hold the line, fighting against the plague-ridden cultists reducing the planet to anarchy.

While the war rages on and the true enemy makes itself known, the fate of Velua and the wider crusade may rest upon the shoulders of another of the Imperial Regent's agents: the disgraced Rogue Trader Katla Helvintr. Heroes rise and worlds fall, and only the light of faith will guide the warriors of the Imperium to their destiny.

Builds characters and some interesting narrative ideas up at the beginning to have them play out over a very short period and not particularly satisfactorily. Doesn’t really tie into the predeceeding books in the series at all. Book for books sake it feels like.

Also really starting to question how many traitor legionaries from the siege days can still be around at this point. They die frequently and in great numbers it seems.

Feels superfluous

As others have said there is quite a lot going on in this book, the first time I listened to this I had a bit of trouble following what is going on. But on a second run through it makes much more sense. It's not the best dawn of fire book but still an enjoyable listen if you like the weird religious side of 40k

Better on second listen

Perhaps overly ‘world setting-up’ for future books. Hope the characters reappear again. Enjoyed the characterisation and performance.

Superfluous and a little too long

Dawn of fire is really starting to nose dive, this book marks yet another example of how limited the series is in scope, so little of substance happens as to make you not care at all where the crusade is going. Step it up BL!

Another inconsequential book

slow start with world building but required to cover some of the different factions if you not read them before.

good for sisters of battle and black Templar with the faith bit, also ok for the interaction between cults and death guard.

Black library need to come up with a convention for additional stories like these to stop the main line getting bogged down

not really a dawn of fire book but good for some
