About this listen
Engage with the latest scholarship on the biblical theology of mission and missional hermeneutics with Christopher J. H. Wright's classic text.
Most Christians would agree that the Bible provides a basis for mission. But Christopher Wright boldly maintains that there is a missional basis for the Bible itself. The entire Bible is generated by and is all about God's mission. In order to understand the Scriptures, we need a missional hermeneutic, an interpretive perspective in sync with the beating heart of its great mission.
Wright gives us a new hermeneutical perspective on Scripture through an understanding of:
- Who God is
- What he has called his people to be and do
- How the nations fit into God's mission
In this revised edition of The Mission of God, Wright extends his classic discussion to consider the ways that the conversation on missional hermeneutics has developed since its original publication. This new edition addresses the questions, criticisms, and insights that have emerged during the intervening two decades.
Whether you're a pastor, scholar, or student, The Mission of God will benefit your understanding of how the Bible shapes the story and purpose of God's people.
©2025 Christopher J. H. Wright (P)2025 Tantor MediaI felt a bit daunted starting the first edition of this book in hard back as I have so much reading to do for a master's theology course to devote time to this book despite the recommendations. so as soon as i saw it available i used my credit immediately.
I struggle to understand what he's talking about because the readers voice is so lifeless and mechanical. I actually googled him to find out of he was a real human being. Google claims he is a real man and showed me a photo of a red haired man who didn't look like a robot but he sure sounds like one. I have only managed 5 chapters so far and have been tempted to give up twice.
His voice has a strange intonation, so regularly the words he is speaking sound like they rise like they had been autotuned, there are weird pauses peppered between words. it's a though he read out each word in a Vocabulary list, then a computer autotuned it to make every word sound monotonous before the computer complied it into a 30 hour dissapointment. i heard it said that this book was the most important book produced on mission in the last 100 years but his voice makes it about as interesting as reading the back of a box of own brand breakfast cereal.
i have an app on my phone that reads pdfs and epubs to me using ai, the ai is more pleasant to listen to than this mans voice. i was so looking forward to hearing this read but i think i might go back to the pdf app i just talked about.
i am so disappointed.
i am struggling with this
