About this listen

*From the multi-million copy bestselling author of The Girl Before and Playing Nice, now major television series*

'JP Delaney has a gift for the unputdownable story' MICK HERRON

New beginnings can be deadly . . .

Kate and Matt Crowther are finally moving out of London, in search of a better life for their young family. Trade Cottage seems to be the house of their dreams - and they immediately hit it off with the sellers, Rosemary and Paul Finch, who brought up their own family there.

When Kate and Matt move in, they're pleased to discover the Finches still very much in evidence: offering advice, introducing them to the local community, and becoming honorary grandparents to Will, 11, and Tilly, 9. But when the Finches take exception to Kate and Matt's renovations, relations with the neighbours sour, and Kate and Matt find themselves subjected to a vicious campaign of hate.

But Kate isn't giving up her dream home without a fight. And it turns out Trade Cottage has secrets of its own to reveal - secrets that may endanger the very family Kate has moved there to protect . . .

Unfortunately this story is disappointing as it's full of clichés and just seems to be lazy writing by the author who probably whipped this up very quickly. The protagonist is way too good to be true and the ending is questionable. If you've never read a psychological thriller before, it would probably be quite engrossing, but unfortunately that isn't me.

I enjoyed it so much I bought all J P Delaneys books.
A really interesting contemporary story with many twists. I never guessed the ending.

The lovely narration.

After watching a televised adaptation of one of the author's books I decided to listen to this audible. The narrator was good but I found the storyline very slow moving and it did not encourage me to read until the end. A lot of emotions were playing out between the new owners and the couple that sold them their house but it did not capture my interest.Overall a disappointing listen this time.

Slow pace.
