About this listen

The past few days have taken their toll on Frank, but R&R is not an option. Eden isn’t quite the utopia he’d expected. When they come under attack from zombies and humans alike, difficult decisions must be made.

With the horrific events still fresh in their mind, Amy and Ben finally feel safe in their secluded cottage. But that’s when things start to go wrong. The undead are getting faster. They’re smarter. They’re mutating.

To make matters worse, something else lurks in the shadows; something far worse than any zombie.

I don’t know why, but I’ll never tire of zombie stories, especially those that add something different to the trope. I listened to the audiobook of this third instalment of The Virus Series titled The Mutation, greatly narrated by Simon Aitchison. Now I need to read/listen to book 1 and 2!

This series will definitely appeal to fans of The Walking Dead as it’s character and dialogue focused. It’s not much about the zombie aspect itself, although there’s plenty about that, but more how the different characters react and deal with this apocalypse.

If there’s one thing you can count humans on, it’s their selfishness, especially in times of need, and I guess it makes sense in a way as it’s when the survival instinct really kicks in. In this book this is explored through the various individuals, and we also have the morally grey scientists, which is an added bonus in my opinion.

I loved the zombie mutation as the unpredictable variable, just so to avoid anyone getting too comfortable with the zombies (lol). And when I thought about how that mutation worked and what the zombies could do, well, I’ll just say I’m glad it’s fiction!

The story obviously doesn’t end here as not only there wasn’t a clear ending, but there are too many loose ends in need of development, and that’s enough to keep me looking forward to the next book, whilst I catch up on the first two!

Thanks to the author for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.

Another fast action and thrilling story from Damien Lee. Gore and guts abound in this Zombie filled ride. Simon Aitchison's 5 star performance adds to the enjoyment of this third book in the Virus series. Recommended.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the narrator and leave this honest review.
