About this listen

Celebrating 100 years of Agatha Christie stories, The Mysterious Affair at Styles is Hercule Poirot’s first case, performed on audio by Captain Hastings actor Hugh Fraser.

‘Beware! Peril to the detective who says: “It is so small – it does not matter…” Everything matters.’

After the Great War, life can never be the same again. Wounds need healing, and the horror of violent death banished into memory.

Captain Arthur Hastings is invited to the rolling country estate of Styles to recuperate from injuries sustained at the Front. It is the last place he expects to encounter murder. Fortunately he knows a former detective, a Belgian refugee, who has grown bored of retirement…

Hugh Fraser's excellent characterisation of Poirot's first outing is superb. A very enjoyable story from start to finish!

Fabulous audiobook

Oh please....
As with many Christie books, there are so many characters, it is hard to keep track of who is who and who has done what! At least with the TV/Film adaptations there is a face to the name.
This was the 2nd Christie book I had "read" and it may be sacrilege to say, but I found it a little dull and to be fair, if you had all the information on the ‘who-done-it’, it would be easy to detect the killer.
I was disappointed. I was determined to read or listen to all of her books this year as a personal challenge and I have given up after 6 - dare I say it??
Yes - I dare…. They are boring!

Yawn!

I enjoyed my first Agatha Christie novel in Audi. Can’t wait to hear some more.

wish the audio chapters were aligned with the book chapters. it was v annoying that this wasn't the case.

Great! but...

As always, Agatha Christie's novels never fail to delight a listener and the use of Hugh Fraser is to be commended when he is narrating the English characters. Unfortunately his portrayal of Poirot's accent is dire, this recording would have been perfect if that had been voiced by a different narrative actor.

A brilliant story
