About this listen

Everyone knows about the Alperton Angels: the cult who brainwashed a teenage girl into believing that her baby was the anti-Christ. When the girl came to her senses and called the police, the Angels committed suicide and mother and baby disappeared into the care system.

Now, author Amanda Bailey is writing a book on the case. The Alperton baby has turned eighteen; finding them will be the true-crime scoop of the year. But rival author Oliver Menzies is just as smart, better connected, and also on the baby's trail.

As Amanda and Oliver are forced to collaborate, they realise that the truth about the Angels is much darker and stranger than they'd ever imagined. This story is far from over...

Overblown, ‘clever’ in need of editing and read by some of the most irritating voices.

Overblown, portentous and - ultimately boring

Really enjoyed this book; as expected with any Janice Halley book! Sadly, the voice of Ellie Cooper really grated on me and I found her very difficult to listen to… hoping there’s not a second book based around her!
Also, one of the titles of a chapter gives away a key part in the story! (and one has a spelling mistake) poor work Audible!!

Great book with plenty of twists and turns

What a fantastic story, utterly gripping and brilliantly performed. I was none the wiser about the mystery until the very end.

Brilliant

The story itself is EXCELLENT, and is Janice Hallett's best so far. Unfortunately the performance is unbearable in places as the format means there are a lot of text/email conversations and stage directions which don't translate well to audio. It gets incredibly frustrating when there's a barrage of "winky face emoji" descriptions read aloud, that cut across the story.

It isn't completely unlistenable, so if audiobook is the only format that works for you it's still worth a listen, but if you can, I'd try reading it instead; the experience will be much better

So very well narrated by all the readers and such an immersive and intricate story which keeps the reader / listener up all night! Hope you are working on your next book
