About this listen

Angela Brazil wrote school stories for girls throughout the first half of the 20th century. She was the first author to relate this experience from the girls' perspective, offering a more sympathetic and intimate view of school life. Funny, touching, and wonderfully "jollyhockey sticks", The Nicest Girl in the School remains one of the most popular of her stories. It features Patty Hirst and her cousin Muriel Pearson, and tells of their turbulent times together at Morton Priory, even including a near-death experience! It is superbly read by Harriet Walter, one of Britain's finest actresses.Public Domain (P)2006 CSA Telltapes Ltd. Classics Literature & Fiction Funny

Very wholesome, good narrator, just a little error in the editing that means there's a random half chapter at the end

I greatly enjoyed this little-known school story. It's much in the same vein as St Clare's or Malory Towers. The plot is simple and the recording is relatively short but despite this it is very easy to listen to and I was rooting for Patty by the end.
Nonetheless, there is nearly 4 minutes of the story missing in the middle which bizarrely then appears after the ending, in a separate chapter.

Great book but beware there is a big error in the recording!
