About this listen

More than three million acres of dense woodlands make up the North Maine Woods. There are no major towns. No public roads. Nothing but forest for as far as the eye can see.

When two marines and their corpsman reunite after a decade apart, they find themselves caught up in the mystery of their former squad leader’s disappearance. With little more to go on than a handful of disturbing charcoal sketches and the whispers of a local legend, they plunge into the depths of one of America’s last truly wild places.

But the trees themselves begin to whisper dark secrets. Secrets of trafficking and violence. Of rotten science and blood. Of something else that lurks in the shadows of the pines—something ancient, savage, and hungry.

Great story, loved the narration. The concept of the story drew me in very quickly and held me the entire time. Would have liked a little more at the end as I felt it finished rather sharp. Overall it’s a belter

Loved this

I appreciated the author's note about military camaraderie and loyalty. The story was compelling enough and a good addition to my October supernatural listens

Not my usual listen

I loved how a well written horror novel, also gave a great insight into the lives of veterans. I really think the characters displayed strength an sorrow. A great horror, survival yarn, that manages to be poignant.

Great narrative

Very good v gripping. not 100% clear on the ending... feel like there could of been a bit more clarity on what the evil really was and how it was affecting people.

well performed

I don't often write a review- with over 300 titles in my audible library, it takes something special for me to bother writing a review.

this is something special.

i won't spoil the story other than to say what begins as a tale of old military colleagues reuniting slowly takes a turn into something much darker. i was hooked the whole way and was very sad to finish it. the narration is also excellent- which itself is very tricky to pull off.

Exceptional horror and a story of brotherhood
