Covering 13.8 billion years, a calculatedly concise, wryly intelligent history of everything, from the Big Bang to the advent of human civilization.

With wonder, wit, and flair - and in record time and space - geophysicist David Bercovici explains how everything came to be everywhere, from the creation of stars and galaxies to the formation of Earth's atmosphere and oceans to the origin of life and human civilization. Bercovici marries humor and legitimate scientific intrigue, rocketing listeners across nearly 14 billion years and making connections between the essential theories that give us our current understanding of topics as varied as particle physics, plate tectonics, and photosynthesis. Bercovici's unique literary endeavor is a treasure trove of real, compelling science and fascinating history, providing both science lovers and complete neophytes with an unforgettable introduction to the fields of cosmology, geology, climate science, human evolution, and more.

Exceptional good summary of the earth evolution. I’ve listened to several audiobooks on earth evolution in the past but this one excels at quickly taking you through the whole of earth evolution without the loss of details.

If like me you're not a scientist but are mildly interested in how things came to be and why then you'll probably enjoy this as much as I did. The author doesn't get bogged down with too much jargon. Undoubtedly complicated scientific research has been boiled down to easily understandable concepts that I as a lay person could get my head around.

Very interesting and amusing at times

When I was at school (many, many years ago), I was told that writing essays for exams and marking, certain words were kind of academic "standards". These include; Moreover, Indeed, However... and 'THUS'.

All of these words are used, many times throughout, but a special trophy should be awarded for the sheer number of thusses.

A fine book, which explains stuff reasonably, and thus now you're aware of and will notice it,
a book that sounds a little like it was written by me, aged 14.

interesting, informative and not fridiots, BUT...
