About this listen

‘A therapeutic dose of high-strength emotion’ GUARDIAN

*JOANNA GLEN'S LATEST NOVEL MAYBE, PERHAPS, POSSIBLY IS OUT NOW*

Augusta Hope has never felt like she fits in.

At six, she’s memorising the dictionary. At seven, she’s correcting her teachers. At eight, she spins the globe and picks her favourite country on the sound of its name: Burundi.

And now that she's an adult, Augusta has no interest in the goings-on of the small town where she lives with her parents and her beloved twin sister, Julia.

When an unspeakable tragedy upends everything in Augusta's life, she's propelled headfirst into the unknown. She's determined to find where she belongs – but what if her true home, and heart, are half a world away?

‘It’s going to be all over every book club in Britain before you can say Burundi’ THE TIMES

The story itself was wonderful and the language exquisite. the o my thing I disliked was the last reading Augusta's part. Occasionally the narration was read in a way I didn't think the author intended. It was irritating when portraying Augusta as a young girl and I felt there was sarcasm or an immaturity to her annunciation which I felt contradicted the character. Had I read it for myself her voice would have been different.

Don't let it out you off though, it becomes less and less through the book and the writing is strong enough to handle it.

Great story, narration needed reigning back.

If you are also finding this story a slow burner, it gathers in pace in the second part and the depth of the story unfolds. A truly wonderful story of love and life.

Wonderful story

Loved it to bits. Have told so many friends to read it. Quite an unexpected find. Stories about twins are always fascinating, not just because I have twin grandsons.

A gripping very original story.
