Books one through three in the hit The Path of Ascension series are now available in this special audio bundle. It also includes book 3.5, an exclusive novella set between books three and four in the series.

Orphaned by monsters, Matt must power-up to save others from the same fate.

Matt plans to delve the rifts responsible for the monsters that destroyed his city and murdered his parents. But his dreams are crushed when his Tier One Talent is rated as detrimental, and no guild or group will take him.

Working at a nearby inn, he meets a mysterious and powerful couple who give him a chance to join the Path of Ascension, an empire-wide race to ascend the Tiers and become living legends.

With their recommendation and a stolen Skill, Matt begins his journey to the peak of power. Maybe then, he can get vengeance he seeks....

About the series: This is a mix between LitRPG and xianxia. It's like a car that looks like a LitRPG with dungeons and skills, but the interior and engine are all xianxia. It features a magic system and progression system that are logically and internally consistent, as well as realistic fight scenes and a rational MC.

I picked this up cause 3.5 books for a credit is a great deal, and it fits in the genres I like. I've read a lot of chinese cultivation webnovels, and plenty of manhua and manhwa of the same. I love the Manhwas of hunters with powers and skills entering gates to fight monsters. I love cultivation stories of sects and magic items and cultivators who move from planet to planet. I love the stories of a character with a weak skill who ends up strong by using it well.

This is all of that and more. It's the right amount of number crunching to satisfy my gamer side without it being overwhelming. Talking of mana costs, and mana regen and have those numbers intrical to the plot, but the reader doesn't need to remember any of that to enjoy the story. When the numbers are plot relevant, they get repeated.

The skills and talents are interesting. I LOVE the concept of a weak skill or talent that when used correctly is incredible. This has such a unique and interesting 'detrimental' talent, that it's fascinating seeing how he handles it and uses it to the best he can.

The characters are wonderful. Aunt Helen <3 love her so much. They're interesting and varied, but you still get the satisfaction of the "arrogant young master, kicking up a fuss until his ass gets kicked.", it just doesn't make that entire plot.

The comedy is great. I have laughed out loud at this book so much.

My favourite part has got to be the downtime. When the characters aren't being pushed by plot or pushing the plot, but simply existing in the world, interacting with the world, and we get to see different sides of them all.

The only mild criticism I have is more about the nature of an audio book and is not the fault of the author or narrator, who does an amazing job. Sometimes the main character calculates stat growth up to level 50, and that numberical table gets read out loud. My eyes do glaze over a bit at those moments. But they're very rare, and again, not the fault of the author or narrator. It's hard to convey a table of numbers in speech. They're kept rare enough that they don't affect my enjoyment of the story, I only mention it to point to the one criticism I have.

The Narrator is fantastic, separate identifiable voices, consistent performance throughout. I never question who is speaking in a given moment. He has a wonderful cadence and is easy to listen to.

I just finished book 1, and still have 2.5 books to go. But I have no doubt I'm going to be getting this entire series and binge reading it for the next few months.

Love this! Awesome and hilarious!

its slow paced, but the mc gets slightly stronger than everyone else at his level really fast and stays that way for the whole thing, so it never feels like your constantly waiting for him to become competent. watching him grow is satisfying. this is one of those progression stories that counter balances the mc's op stuff by giving lots of people op stuff making him just one of a few special people, not all of which are on his side. this is a more slice of life style story, there is a lot of combat but almost no plot tension or true villeins, just difficult times and training scenarios. so read this to relax or have it in the background as it isn't a super intense page turner, just interesting to think about while doing something else. the world building is the main drawing point of this one over similar stories as it exceedingly well put together with almost no holes or issues that I could find.

I couldn't find any simple explanation or blurb for the 3.5th book anywhere so i'll provide one here: is just the 3rd book from the other parties perspective, the group with the healer we met in the first book. it interesting and not too long so if you're like me and don't like long tangents about unrelated things, don't worry because this isn't that.

the performance starts out sub par as the voice actor shouts every line of dialogue as if the characters are yelling across a room at each other, but he stops doing this about half way through the second book so bear with it. otherwise I would call it adequate but not exceptional.

I rate this 5 stars for being the gold standard for its genre. but be careful if you don't like said genre.

Slow but steady

Sometimes, these bundled books can be a bit of a drag to get through and are only really worth it for the length. I'm super happy to say this is far from the case here. This was a fun to follow adventure from the start to the end, and I will be continuing straight onto the 4th book.

I would call this series more of a slice of life fantasy with cultivation as a side dish from Aunt Helens Kitchen, then a true hardcore gamelit/rpglit. (This isn't a bad thing just to let others know)

Overall, i would recommend this series to anyone who wants a longer story that focuses on the interpersonal relationships and broader life of a group of younger adventurers as they strive for power and their path.

*just as a little bonus it seems this also includes a side story that's not part of the normal series, so another reason to get it while its hot ;)
