About this listen
Earth is dying. As global war and runaway artificial intelligence tear civilization apart, humanity unknowingly places its final hope in Pioneer—a deep-space ark carrying five hundred sleepers toward Alpha Centauri. Commanded by General Marcus Roberson, the mission is simple in theory: survive long enough for humanity to begin again.
The universe has other plans.
When Pioneer is pulled significantly off course during its jump, Roberson and his executive officer, Danielle Hatch, choose to remain awake, working methodically to determine what went wrong and where they've arrived. Cut off from known space and faced with only bad options, they push the ship and its systems as far as they can. When nothing more can be done, they make a conscious, final decision: place themselves into cryosleep and wait it out.
They are not asleep for long.
Roberson and Hatch later awaken to find Pioneer intercepted by the Imperium—a vast interstellar civilization that claims to have been expecting humanity… for three hundred years.
Humanity's arrival has not gone unnoticed.
Beyond Imperial borders, ancient forces known only as the Shadows are stirring—entities that do not merely attack fleets, but minds. As Roberson is drawn into a role far greater than command of a single ship, he begins to experience unsettling visions, subtle physical changes, and fragments of memory that suggest his connection to the Shadows may be far older than this mission.
Caught between political power, cosmic war, and a destiny he never sought, Roberson must lead while questioning what he is becoming—and whether humanity's survival comes at a cost it may not understand.
The Pioneers: Awakening is a sweeping science-fiction epic of first contact, survival, and transformation—where the greatest danger is not extinction, but evolution.
