Summary

Frankie Bishop had only been married for a few months when he became a widower, leaving him with a mountain of debts, a business on the edge of ruin, and a parrot called Hank Marvin.

Three years later, the business is finally thriving, and Frankie finds himself ready to look for love again. It comes as a complete surprise to discover that he’s developed feelings for Con — his late husband’s best friend and now Frankie’s business partner.

Why did he overlook the gorgeous man who's been by his side through everything? Even more importantly, how can he tell Con about his feelings when Con seems to have suddenly found love with another man?

Windowed Frankie and his best friend, Con, run a business together, and then Con brings home a new boyfriend. That's when things seem to change for Frankie. Great story and easy to listen to.

It is brilliantly written, as usual, full of snark and a great story.

The characters have depth, and so does the story, which is all helped along by an outstanding narration by Joel Leslie, but I did speed up the narration to 1.20 on audible.
It's well worth a listen. I would highly recommend it.

Another great book from Lily Morton. A lovely story following the two very likeable main characters. Plenty of snark, fun and a real love story with a happy ever after. Brilliantly narrated by Joel Leslie. Well worth a credit.

Joel Leslie and Lily Morton were made in comedic heaven and their partnership on earth is such a joy. Lily writes sarcastic prose and Joel delivers it with brilliant timing. Truly, everything they’ve done is genius.

The Player is no exception. I knew from those first few lines that I was in for a treat. Frankie broke my heart. Young widower. Remembering his dead husband. Preparing to go to work with his dead husband’s best friend. Who has become his best friend. And business partner and…well, it’s complicated.

Then that business partner shows up with a guy in tow and Frankie’s thrown for a loop. He’s always just sort of assumed Con would be there. Now, though, Frankie has to admit he’s developed feelings for Con right about the time Con has found someone else.

Epic cosmic joke.

No one ever said the course of true love ran smooth. Or whatever that expression is. Lily made Frankie and Con work really, really, really hard for their happily ever after. And OMG, the flowers. And the laughs. And the love.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one and I know all audiofiles will as well. Loved it!
