About this listen

It was supposed to be simple.

Fake date campus hockey royalty to make my long-time crush look my way.

Enter Kieran O’Connor—star winger and campus legend.

Devastating good looks. Cocky dialed to eleven. The kind of guy who always gets what he wants.

He needs help passing a class. I need a fake boyfriend.

We make a deal.

I write the rules in permanent marker: no touching, no kissing, no feelings.

But Kieran O’Connor doesn’t do rules.

His grin is a blade.

His hands? Pure trouble.

Somewhere between late-night problem sets and his number stretched across my shoulders, I forget we’re pretending.

Then I find out the truth.

The bet he agreed to.

Make the tutor fall for the golden boy.

He thought it was a game.

He didn’t think he’d get burned.

And if Kieran O’Connor wants me back,
he’ll have to skate through everything he set on fire —
and prove he knows how to earn what he broke.

A fake dating, college hockey romance where the most wanted man on campus falls first—and falls hard—for the underestimated girl who refuses to be anyone’s prize.

It was nice to read a book where the pace wasn't rushed and his earning the right to use her real name.
Definitely worth a read if you like a slow burn romance.
The story or a hockey jock and a engineer major geeky girl who lists after the wrong guy.

Loved this as much if not more than the book. Although based in the world of NHL/college hockey this has a twist to the tale. Fabulous narration makes it so easy to listen to, and I always feel you pick up more emotion this way.

The Pucking Bet is a deeply relevant story with an outstanding leading lady and a young man who has a lot of growing to do. Wren is phenomenal as the science genius who works hard and takes care of those she loves, guarding her heart and standing strong regardless of what life throws her way. I LOVED getting to know her as the story progresses, and watching her traverse her trauma is palpably presented. Kieran is headstrong, ego-centric, knows right from wrong, and brilliant in his own right. That he is swayed by evil people when his ego takes the lead is all too common in young adults, and the situation he puts himself into is really quite untenable. I love how the author addressed each piece of the situation with truth, integrity, and accountability—shining a beacon on what happens when people are selfish and conniving, and how those choices affect others—is really well done. The third act drama is perfectly poised and explosive, and the conclusion is unexpected in trajectory and yet so lovely.

The narrators performed the various roles beautifully with emotion, passion, and pizzazz. Their voices are easy to listen to and smooth in presentation, keeping the story moving along nicely. I loved the cameos from the Defenders and their ladies, the brief glimpses into the future, and the growth arc of Kieran’s character was well-played. There are some triggering moments in this one for sure, but it is well worth the read/listen.

This has to be my favourite AJ Summers book. Not just in this series, but out of all of her books I've read so far. Oh the rollercoaster of emotions! My heart went from pounding in anticipation, to breaking in two and every other emotion in between including anger and pity.

A must read for any hockey romance fan.
