About this listen

A provocative examination of how the great religious traditions can remain relevant in modern times by incorporating scientific truths learned about human nature over the last century.

A single purpose lies at the heart of all the great religious traditions: awakening to the astonishing reality of the true nature of ourselves and the universe. At the same time, through centuries of cultural accretion and focus on myth and ritual as ends in themselves, this core insight has become obscured. Here Ken Wilber provides a path for reenvisioning a religion of the future that acknowledges the evolution of humanity in every realm while remaining faithful to that original spiritual vision. For the traditions to attract modern men and women, Wilber asserts, they must incorporate the extraordinary number of scientific truths learned about human nature in just the past 100 years - for example, about the mind and brain, emotions, and the growth of consciousness - that the ancients were simply unaware of and thus were unable to include in their meditative systems. Taking Buddhism as an example, Wilber demonstrates how his comprehensive Integral Approach - which is already being applied to several world religions by some of their adherents - can avert a "cultural disaster of unparalleled proportions": the utter neglect of the glorious upper reaches of human potential by the materialistic postmodern worldview. Moreover, he shows how we can apply this approach to our own spiritual practice. This, his most sweeping work since Sex, Ecology, Spirituality, is a thrilling call for wholeness, inclusiveness, and unity in the religions of tomorrow.

Ken Wilber delivers the most comprehensive and important contribution to the religions of tomorrow including offering a terrific guide to the shadows of every single level of development and every single state of consciousness that has ever been made. Deep bow for this tremendous work, highly recommended for everyone who wants to grow in depth and breadth!

Ken Wilber at his best!

Truly enlightening. Superb performance and applicable content. Thanks to Ken Wilber's work, I was liberated to discover that I was not insane or going nuts, but rather it's a stage of development naturally kicking in that I was previously unaware of.

Also a very practical section on shadow work from an integral perspective. The exercises from the book in combination with other integration techniques have fueled my first proper awakening. Highly and thankfully recommend.

Not going nuts!

Exhausting and frustrating, the writing would benefit from fewer words, more structure, less repetition and clearer examples.

He convinces me of the great merit in a holistic approach to knowledge, systems, self-development and spirituality - it's a wonder they're not commonly framed this way.

Wilber attempts to fuse integral theory with states of consciousness, in a way that a novice to Buddist teachings, such as myself, may struggle with somewhat. But his decriptions of non-dual awareness are intriguing and, interestingly, are not limited to one tradition.

Wilber dismisses some concepts as 'magic/mythic' too readily perhaps, whilst claiming to transcend and include them. Some musings on science, such as protein folding being controlled by the casual realm (somehow) are not founded in knowledge, likewise, his statement on gene mutation requiring both sexes is false.

Second tier / integral stages of growing up, I can imagine (and I think readers will chime with), but Wilber disappears into the clouds with Third tier. Does he expect we can all become transpersonal as our main state of being and live a normal human life?

Dispite the book's faults, Wilber is a sage. I agree we should all aim for higher states of being. His grand vision of the future is beautiful and good.

Verbose but profound

Perhaps the most comprehensive view of spirituality available today. This understanding is utterly essential. Not to be missed.

Truly enriching.

Quite literally opened my mind, I’m now so much more aware of the layers of consciousness and it’s effect upon the world. This audio is 20 plus hours but Iv enjoyed it immensely and will defiantly listen to again.
Thanks you Ken Wilber and sounds true
