This is one of my favourite pern books, but unfortunately the narration ruined it for me. I wonder if it is AI narrating it. There were frequent strange pauses, and the inflection was wrong a lot of times. Very disappointing

Through a combination of ridiculously-inappropriate accents, mispronunciation of common language & use of simply-incorrect words, the narrator demonstrates a lack of regard & empathy for the preceding canon of this great author’s work. Truly disappointing, as is the lack of post-recording quality control.

I have listened to all the pern books pre audible. I was really looking forward to listening again with this new recording. But what a disappointment! The story is good but the narration is just appalling, the pacing, emphasis and context are just completely off kilter. It is not AI but it is as if the narrator is reading each half sentence in isolation and then software just stitches them together. I honestly can not believe this got past the “producers” let alone the mccaffery estate. Very disappointing.
