About this listen

A kingdom full of secrets. A queen ready to rise.Arianna's story continues in the second book in the #1 bestselling The Fae of Alastríona series by J.E. Reed.

Having just barely survived the brutality of slavery and war, Arianna has finally revealed herself as The Divine but has yet to fully understand the heavy responsibilities of her new role.

With their new mating bond still solidifying, Arianna and Rion arrive in Ruadhán, the royal city of Alastríona, so she can lay rightful claim to her throne. The city, however, is full of superstition about The Demon, and the pair is tested at every turn, especially by the male who is acting as regent . . . and was prophesied to be Arianna's true mate.

Though she aims to learn from those who have been ruling the city in her absence, Arianna's trust is shaken when she discovers the royal council is keeping life-altering secrets. Her search for the truth ensnares those closest to her as they work to unravel the mysteries surrounding the royal city and the Lord of Pádraigín.

And then a devastating mistake leads to bloodshed and an excruciating exile.

As Arianna's world turns upside down, she must decide what is real, who she can trust, and exactly what she is willing to fight for.

The second book in the #1 bestselling The Fae of Alastríona series returns listeners to a land haunted by war, where hearts are tested and the truth will either destroy the continent or set it free.

Great story and I really enjoyed the narration except for the mispronunciation of the Irish words/names. I get that the Irish language is extremely confusing to read and to figure out how to pronounce but a quick Google and you can easily find out. It’s really nit picky of me but it just took me out of the story every time. Really looking forward to the next instalment and hoping that it’s been corrected 🤞

Mispronunciation of Irish names was painful

Could have had a bit more spice but a reasonable story line with twists and turns

Story 3.5⭐
Narration 5⭐

This book had a slow start. It actually took me about 3 weeks to get through the first 60%, then I finished the rest in a day. It's worth pushing through, though. I enjoyed the political intrigue. While it wasn't hard to guess who the villain was, the depth of their plotting and deceit was where it got interesting.

We meet a lot of interesting new characters and I think that's part of what caused the slow pace in the first half. We also got a lot more world building. This book is darker than the first, but it's not particularly graphic. There are revelations and plot twists that will have your head spinning. And it ends on a cliffhanger.

Laura Horowitz was fantastic as a solo narrator in book 1 and brought the same energy to this book. I love her in dual style because her male voice is always on point. I loved the addition of Gregory Salinas as a narrator. He added more depth to the performance which made for a more immersive reading experience. They're both narrators I enjoy and a big reason I picked up this series.

Slow start, but it pays off
