Summary

In the stunning continuation of the epic adventure begun in Hyperion, Simmons returns us to a far future resplendent with drama and invention. I've enjoyed rather than loved the Hyperion series, certainly enough to pull me through to this final book.

This last installment is the least satisfying of the series, large swaths of exposition, predictable plot and a lunk headed protagonist lead to an ending which tries too hard to tie up all the loose ends.

If you've enjoyed the other books in the series you'll get what you need from this, but this will not change the mind of anyone who's not a fan of the past work

It's an ending

A bit tedious compared to Hyperion. But overall great finale of series. I wish there have been more books in this universe. Some questions were not answered, but open ending must be open.

I am contented

I'm glad I persisted through the entire series. I had felt that the second book - The Fall of Hyperion - as it was a bit heavy with exposition. The concluding third and fourth books feel like a pair and are both consistently exciting and fascinating. Simmons has an enormous imagination, and describes imagery and philosophy that still feel fresh, quarter of a century after he published them. It's all slow going, or at least it's exhausting somehow, but worth it.

A Rich Epic

could not stop listening. like a good book could not put down.
the plot really starts after about 2 chapters. the characters come to life. There are parts that make your heart race as you are pulled into the future which seems quite possible

worth listening to
