A sweltering summer spells bad news for the private detective business. Thieves and philanderers take the month off and the only swingers in town are the ones to be found on the 19th hole of the Royal Hoo Golf Course. The civilized reputation of the 'Hoo' is in trouble, however. Shocking allegations of cheating have been directed at one of its leading members, Chris Porphyry. When Chris turns to Joe Sixsmith, PI, he's more than willing to help - well, he hasn't got any other clients - only Joe hadn't counted on being French-kissed then dangled out of a window on the same day. Before long, though, Joe's on the trail of a conspiracy that starts with missing balls, and ends with murder! Crime Fiction Mystery Suspense Thriller & Suspense Fiction

I expected to be faced with a complex plot, well drawn characters and great writing. None of these things were terrible, I just felt it was very light on all three aspects. There were smiley bits, that were fun, but was left unsatisfied, which never has happened with this author.

Not what I have come to love of Reginald Hill

Reginald Hill is now an author I look for regularly, especially the non series books. They have wonderful characters, who you get to know through their thoughts and actions rather than descriptions. Plots are complicated by behaviours not by extreme events.
These are somehow very feel good books with a slower pace though never dull. You can put them down but you don't want to, and I am always sorry when they end.

Awesome author great narration

I loved this novel of the self effacing private eye. Great characters and e,cells plot.

Exceptional story telling

This is an amusing story from the series about Joe Sixsmith, an unlikely private dectective who operates in Luton, not exactly the epicentre of the universe, but still a hotbed of crime.

Fun and at time nailbiting if, like me, you do not have strong nerves. Do buy this amusing and exciting story where the "Roar of butterflies" is explained.

Dastardly doings on the golf course

Thoroughly enjoyed this Joe Sixsmith story. An unusual crime thriller but enjoyable all the same. Kept my attention throughout. Looking forward to listening to another in the series.
Good narration and voice characterisations by Rupert Farley.
Reccomended
