Summary

It is the week before Christmas. The effects of the credit crunch have prompted Dr Kay Scarpetta to offer her services pro bono to New York City’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. But in no time at all, her increased visibility precipitates a string of dramatic and unsettling events. She is asked live on the air about the sensational case of Hannah Starr, who has vanished and is presumed dead. Moments later during the same broadcast, she receives a startling call-in from a former psychiatric patient of Benton Wesley’s. And when she returns after the show to the apartment where she and Benton live, she finds a suspicious package waiting for her at the front desk....

Having read most of the Scarpetta books I really wasn't that impressed with this one. The story was boring and lacked any real thriller aspect in my opinion, there was way too much random reference to subject matter that was simply - page filling. The narrator's attempt at various character's accents and male / female tones was awful and really spoilt it for me, going forward, I'll definitely reconsider another audio book dependent on who's narrating it.

A gripping book book from beginning to end. Patricia Cornwell at her best, a twist at the end.

Fantastic Book

A definitive and comprehensive understanding of what Kay Scarpetta does, when dealing with crime and dead bodies. Worth a listen!

After 18 books (I had to buy the 18th book in paperback), I think I need a break from Kay Scarpetta. After all this time, I don't know why Patricia doesn't just write Pete Marino out of the series already. He is doing my fruit in. Benton and Kay are much to old to still be playing the teenage game of does he or doesn't he love me and Lucy, well, dear God, let's not get into that hot mess, shall we? She changes her girlfriends more than she changes her pants. Seriously, I love the narrator, but I just could not wait for this particular book (17) to end. Read at your own discretion.
