About this listen

Exploding myths and offering research-backed advice, this book provides a shortcut to decades of gardening experience by explaining the science behind how a garden grows.

Why does my cherry tree blossom but never fruit? What's the most effective slug deterrent? Could I breed my own unique variety of flower? The world of gardening can be a mystifying place, with so many instructions to follow and often little explanation as to why.

From hands-on advice to an exploration of the mental health benefits of gardening, whilst also looking at sustainable practice and the positive impact gardening can have during a climate crisis, Science of Gardening debunks myths, and reveals the latest science only taught at horticultural college.

As a passionate newcomer to gardening, daunted by the mountain of often conflicting advice in gardening manuals, Dr Stu has set about testing the scientific basis of so much conventional wisdom and practice so you too can garden like a pro.

The book is fast paced and interesting - it has no padding! As a newish gardener, understanding the reasons one does things made them stick in my mind so much better. There are some chapters that are so good, that I need to keep the book as a year round reference, so I’ve ordered a paper copy too.

Great read and excellent reference

I love this book, been growing for 17 years but still learnt a lot from the bits I heard. My copy kept skipping though which was really annoying. Deleted and redownloaded the book and deleted and reloaded the app but still kept skipping/missing sections of audio. Shame because I love the book but the skipping means I just can’t listen to all of it as it drives me nuts!

Great book but sections of audio are missing every 30 seconds
