About this listen

Ten new and original tales of the master detective, told by his loyal friend and assistant, Dr. Watson. The world may not yet be ready for the giant rat of Sumatra but it will assuredly be eager for these stories of murder, kidnap and theft. Here are tales of a walled-up corpse, a gun-toting American, a sealed-room with a difference, and mysterious disappearances, all in the traditional Conan Doyle style. The game is decidedly afoot, as governments totter, dark secrets are exposed, and Scotland Yard's finest stumble and blunder. There are more mysteries solved here, though, than just those brought before Sherlock Holmes - learn at last the truth of his university education, of his first paid case and even his philosophy of toast!

Very pleased by the ingenuity & authenticity of many of the stories in this entertaining collection! Some enjoyable twists & clever devices plus Easter eggs for the fans (especially in the story about an identity-switched MP).

Perhaps I’ve been spoiled by Greg Wagland’s unsurpassable performances of the originals on YouTube, but the reading in this was a little choppy and the sound quality a bit poor. It also felt like the actor was putting on an English accent: didn’t quite convince. Still, much better than many Holmes readings I’ve heard!

Impressive stories, decent narration

As an enormous plus so many of the seemingly ubiquitous Americanisms are absent - they visit railway stations rather than train stations. A couple of the stories are interesting and engaging but some are short and simplistic. They also tend to end abruptly and not necessarily with a satisfying feeling. The narration is good but not as good as Keven E. Green or Michael Langam. All that said, I can recommend it but better ones available.

Good but not the best
