About this listen

After the nightmare of Hurricane Katrina, Dru Rayne and her uncle relocated to Los Angeles. Five years later, their struggling restaurant faces a different danger. When Joe Pike witnesses Dru's uncle beaten by a neighbourhood gang, he offers his own brand of protection, but neither Dru nor her uncle want his help. And neither do the federal agents mysteriously watching their store....

But Pike is falling for Dru and won't back away whether she wants his help or not. As the violence escalates, Joe discovers Dru and her uncle are not who they seem - and now a vengeful, murderous force from their past is catching up with them....

This story of crime in Los Angeles has brilliantly described characters in a good plot, One of Robert Crais' best.

Well woven plot

I love the friendship between Pike and Elvis Cole also the gentle humour.

The story is well written and certainly kept my interest, there is lots going on with twists and turns to keep you guessing. Well worth a read.

I liked Luke Daniels as narrator, he brought the characters to life.

Usual well written story by Mr Crais

The Cole and Pike combo must be in there amongst the best in crime thriller partnerships. Robert Crais tells the story in that engaging way that mingles a little light humor into some real edge of seat storytelling.
