About this listen

The first three epic fantasy books in the Amazon bestselling series The Seven Virtues.

When the king dies, the realm is thrown into chaos as his sons and daughters battle to determine who will take his crown. It is a time of war, betrayal, and tragedy. Men and women flock to one cause or another, hoping to find a better future for themselves and their families.

Everyone, that is, except Aaron Envelar, a jaded sellsword who believes causes are a good remedy for breathing. Aaron's only loyalty is to his coin purse, and his only hope is to avoid the many blades seeking his heart.

But sometimes, a cause finds a man whether he wants it to or not.

When his latest job sends him stumbling into a prince's assassination, a desperate princess seeking his help, and a magical glowing ball of light with a superiority complex, Aaron will be forced to choose sides in a battle he doesn't want between forces he doesn't understand.

On his journey, Aaron will find companions of great power to aid him and magic with which to battle his foes. But there are other forces out there, other powers. And not all powers are kind. Not all magic is benign.

Worst attempt at romance I have ever read. Came out of nowhere with almost no set up. Highly unrealistic too considering the difference in social class and morality. Broke emersion with how rediculous it was. Which of course meant little reaction once characters showed emotions that we were told they had but couldn't feel at all.

Worst attempt at romance I have ever read.

I'm becoming a big fan of this prolific author. This is the second series I have started and I will be getting book four. As an omnibus it's great value and a brilliant intro to the story and world. There are some truly despicable baddies, troubled good guys and strong female characters who while being strong do not turn into girl bosses. What I really enjoy is the authors ability to focus in on smaller or seemingly inconsequential characters and bring them to life. Definitely recommend.

A grim dark world with dark humour but a dash of hope. Great for fans of Abercrombie, Butcher and Mark Lawrence
