Summary

A time traveler’s work is never done.

Likable antiques dealer Joseph Bridgeman is back in the present and dreaming of a quiet life. But when a mysterious and enigmatic time traveler arrives in his shop, Joe learns that his first trip was just the beginning and this time, the rules of the game have changed.

Blackmailed into accepting a new mission, Joe is flung back to 1960s London where he comes face-to-face with a ruthless gangster and witnesses the brutal murder of an innocent woman. Joe knows better than most that death can be reversed and the final chapter is sometimes where the story actually begins. Emotionally involved, he has no choice but to act, and quickly. With the help of Vinny, his vinyl-loving sidekick, Joe once again sets out to change the course of history. Sounds simple enough...but when it comes to time travel, nothing is ever as it seems. Who is the old time traveler working for? And who decides what can and can’t be changed?

In a thrilling twist, Joe discovers that the victim is critically important to the future, and what starts out as a straightforward mission soon becomes a race to unravel a mystery - one that threatens the very timeline he fought so hard to protect. Joe must dig deeper than ever, master his newfound skills, and save the woman before the past catches up with him for good.

Turns out time doesn’t heal after all. It just adds salt.

Well I said in my review for the first book that I could get past the American narrator but for some reason I found it hugely more annoying in this one. The women in particular are painful to listen to and the strange ‘mates’ sound weird.

Also and this is a spoiler:

Please correct me if I am wrong but why does Vinny remember everything that happened before Joe went back and changed history? Alexia didn’t who was serving virtually the same role in the first book. Did I miss something? Genuinely would be happy to be corrected on this!

Irritating narration and ?plot hole (spoiler)

This is an odd series. on the one hand it is great fun and I finished it over a couple of days. the story bowls along nicely and keeps you interested.
but once again a story set in England is read by a non English narrator. while some of his accents are surprisingly good some are truly horrible. but worse than this the writer is clearly not from this side of the pond either. for example a trip to the fair sees them ride on a ferris wheel and eat cotton candy, a prison cell has bars (like in a western), and many other small Americanisms.
Despite these problems I still enjoyed the audiobook, so either I'm such a sucker for a time travel yarn that I'll forgive just about anything, or it's actually a pretty good tale.

Another Good Time Travel Romp

If you love a great story with a touch of sci-fi and time travel then this is for you. This isn’t computers and machines and 1.21 giga watts, far from it. The characters are utterly compelling and rounded and the reluctant hero of the series goes about his business in a fashion fitting someone who doesn’t want the burden he loves to endure. The narrator is superb as always and brings that extra-special dimension to the story few others could. Recommended.

I am always disappointed when a good book comes to an end. This series is very enjoyable indeed and the narration is excellent. Can't wait for book 3.
