About this listen

The murder of an innocent shakes Ireland to its core.

One cold January morning in 1980, on a beach in Kerry, the body of a newborn baby is found in its most sheltered sand dune. When local police are called to the incident, Garda Mary Shea is first on scene.

The Dublin major crimes team are called to investigate and because Mary is able to get crucial, female witnesses to cooperate, lead detective Matt Foley takes her under his wing in his bid to solve the biggest case of his career. More questions than answers are found when it becomes clear many locals conduct secret lives—but who would do such a thing?

A dark and gripping Irish crime debut from an international bestseller. Perfect for fans of Olivia Kiernan, Tana French, and John Banville.

Absolutely fantastic. Best listen all year. The best book since listening to Anna’s two books about Rabbit.

This is an outstanding book loosely based on the Kerry Babies story from the mid eighties in Ireland. Anna McPartlin has captured well the misogynistic behaviour of the time and how the male dominated Garda force intimidated victims to confess to crimes they had not committed. This book is a tribute to all those women of that time who lived in a country which really was No Country for a Woman.

Brilliant

Loved this book. I have read several of Anna McPartlins books, this is the first I have listened it and the first crime one. Very engaging. Highly recommend. Fiona, Dublin

I love Irish accents! The narrator did a great job of giving each character their own voice. I loved the way the story unfolded although the subject matter was profoundly sad. It kept me guessing all the way through as to who the babys Mum was. Great stuff. I hope there is a follow up book very soon 👍🏼

I loved the narration of this book!
