About this listen

On a mountainside at the edge of the Kaigenese Empire live the most powerful warriors in the world, superhumans capable of raising the sea and wielding blades of ice. For hundreds of years, the fighters of the Kusanagi Peninsula have held the Empire's enemies at bay, earning their frozen spit of land the name "The Sword of Kaigen".

Born into Kusanagi's legendary Matsuda family, f14-year-old Mamoru has always known his purpose: To master his family's fighting techniques and defend his homeland. But when an outsider arrives and pulls back the curtain on Kaigen's alleged age of peace, Mamoru realizes that he might not have much time to become the fighter he was bred to be. Worse, the empire he was bred to defend may stand on a foundation of lies.

Misaki told herself that she left the passions of her youth behind when she married into the Matsuda house. Determined to be a good housewife and mother, she hid away her sword, along with everything from her days as a fighter in a faraway country. But with her growing son asking questions about the outside world, the threat of an impending invasion looming across the sea, and her frigid husband grating on her nerves, Misaki finds the fighter in her clawing its way back to the surface.

When the winds of war reach their peninsula, will the Matsuda family have the strength to defend their empire? Or will they tear each other apart before the true enemies even reach their shores?

This was an absolutely enjoyable listen to an amazing and unparalleled story.

I am very glad to finally have made it through this book.
It is harsh and difficult and brutal at times but so worthwhile.

An absolute blast

Wow, elemental controllers within a modern society battling for the rule of the kingdom. This book has similar elements to avatar the last airbender (elemental bending) but that's were it stops. It involves love, war, death and gore. I love it! This is a definite must for all action fans but not only that there are several epic parts to the story and it will keep you at the edge of your seat. The narrator also done a fantastic job.
I hope there's a sequel!

Hidden Gem!

I loved this book and I loved the narration wangs way of telling this story with very complicated words that I don’t know what they mean seems scary but I can still understand in the context of the book and all the heartbreaking moments almost left me in tears and all the happy moments made me giddy like a little child again. Andrew tell’s narration to this book was incredible his way of showing all the emotions that the characters went through seemed so genuine and realistic. This was my first real book that I’ve read/listened to and I think it was a perfect introduction for me. I’ll definitely look for more books that are like this one in the future.

Pure cinema 10/10

The story is simply excellent with very good pacing and very unpredictable events - rare to find when you're a veteran of the genre!
The narrator is absolutely amazing also.

This one is "move it to the top of your list immediately" kinda of (audio)book.

Shocking brilliant on so many levels!
