The Silver Hands were one of the best mercenary companies in the kingdom. Now, only one remains.

Kain Asheld put a marker to the three people closest to him on a quiet ridge overlooking the valley where they'd always promised to meet. His brother Mark never wanted the mercenary life. He wanted to farm. He never got the chance.

Kain bought the land with his share of a final bounty and a desperate need for silence. The locals call it Madder's Place. Ten acres of rotting floorboards, a collapsed roof, and fields the wild took back a decade ago. They'd been talking about burning it down.

The dream of a new life requires more than just land. Support comes from unexpected places: a twelve-year-old crop collector who takes his job very seriously, a tavern owner named Sasha, and a trust system that leaves payment in unlocked boxes by the road. As Kain clears the rot from his new home and learns to grow what his brother always said would grow, he discovers that building a new life takes its own kind of strength.

This is the story of starting over.

If you are looking for a calm grounded story about a man fufilling his dead brothers dying wish with emotional beats that hits? this is for you.

This was a welcome surprise and i look forward to book two. The narrator absolutely killed it with his deliveries, the cracking of his voice to show the mc's grief, heartache and sorrow but also how the story changes from that grief to acceptance and finally moving forward. The MC goes from fulfilling the dream for someone to just living the dream.

This is a good book listen and id recommend it.

Worth a listen.
