I’m three quarters of the way through this fascinating tale and I am hooked. It’s a very long listen but stick with it folks. The voice actor is amazing and ….. I’m not gonna spoil the story but …if you love Dungeons and Dragons then give this a listen!

This book is a perfectly fine fantasy...for a book written 40 years ago. I was excusing it having literally ONE female character, and a fairly generic plot and prose. I am still surprised to learn it was written in 2018.

An example of generic worldbuilding is that tge monks use a cross symbol in their worship. It's not explained why it's the same as a real world religious symbol, it is just so the audience understands it, and it feels like a placeholder religion because of that.

As I said, the story is fine and plenty happens, without relying on sex scenes or hyper-detailed violence, but it definitely feels outdated.

I hope the authors use some more modern references for future works.
