I don’t want gender politics with my entertainment however I’ll forgive Carey this time as it’s not too preachy or shoved down my throat but I won’t accept too much more of it in future.
I really enjoyed the story. The characters are well developed. The adventure is excellent. There was a real sense of danger throughout. Loved the new tech and the tank. Very much looking forward to the third part.

I enjoyed this more than the first book, and just like the first one, it ends on a cliffhanger. M. R. Carey has invented a post-apocalyptic world that grapples with ethics just like ours. He has imagined how society would transform from something that we are familiar with, if a disaster hit (like the unfinished war of the book). I am enjoying these moral dilemmas, expressed in a grammar and speaking style also imagined for the book.

This is the first time I have listened to a series back to back. M R Carey has weaved a rich world with twists and turns and i can't wait for book three.

Brilliantly written, amazing world building and excellent, beautifully nuanced characterisation as well as breathtaking story telling. Very well read by both voice actors.

I usually put an audiobook on in the background when I'm doing other work, but this time I had to give my full attention. Genuinely gripping moments and interesting getting different perspectives from other characters.
