Nick Abrahams still holds the official world record for the number of space launches, but he’s bored stiff with his job hosting space tours. Only when his wife leaves him, however, does he try to change his life.

He accepts a tempting offer from a Russian billionaire. In exchange for making a simple repair on Neptune’s moon Triton, he will return to Earth a multi-millionaire, enabling him to achieve his ‘impossible dream’ of buying his own California vineyard.

The fact that Nick must travel alone during the four-year roundtrip doesn’t bother him at all, as he doesn’t particularly like people anyway. Once en route he learns his new boss left out some critical details in his job description - details that could cost him his life, and humankind its existence....

After the first 3 I was really looking forward to this. Sadly once the narrator started talking I just couldn’t keep listening. I tried listening some more as some narrator’s voices become benign as you get into the story but no. Such a shame as the story held so much promise and the main character was immediately likeable. Not surprised that the narrator was only used for this book. Oh well on to Venus.

The story was great - so good in fact that I managed to get through the whole thing despite the fact the narration was so incredibly off-putting! The emphasis in most sentences felt so wrong as to be mistaken for an early AI generated! (Also, the word ‘escape’ isn’t pronounced ‘excape’). The depth and richness of the vocal tone was great, but it felt entirely un-directed.

Sorry but this felt like an exercise in extending the series. The plot line was thin with ridiculous jumps both in the science plot and the thin characters. Terrible narration, unresolved and underwhelming sci-fi plot lines… I’m afraid I couldn’t wait for it to be finished.
