About this listen

When a wager goes wrong....

Painfully shy Jane Huxley is the furthest thing from a diamond of the first water. Bookish, bespectacled, and, well, plain, she never expected to befriend a dissolute charmer like Colin Lacey, much less agree to help him retrieve a lost family heirloom. Fortunately, he is nothing like his cold, rigid older brother. Unfortunately, he is not above deception if it means winning a wager. And that puts Jane in a most precarious position.

A formidable duke will marry a plain Jane....

For Harrison Lacey, the Duke of Blackmore, protecting his family honor is not a choice, it is a necessity. So, when his cad of a brother humiliates the unwitting Lady Jane, Harrison must make it right, even if it means marrying the chit himself.

And a marriage of convenience will become so much more....

Her reputation hanging by a thread, Jane agrees to wed the arrogant Duke of Blackmore, although she's convinced it will result in frostbite. Only after lingering glances lead to devastating kisses does she begin to suspect the truth: Perhaps - just perhaps - her duke is not as cold as he appears.

Contains mature themes.

A good listen for wintry drives, the narrator is easy on the ear except for the sometimes strange way words are interpreted. Overall a slight irritation that does not spoil. Characterisations are very good

Really enjoyed this book. The characters especially the H and H were brilliant, it has become one of my favourite stories and will be listening to it again and again! Yes the narrator does pronounce the odd word ‘weirdly’ but It is easily forgiven In My opinion. Absolutely treat yourself and download this book now. If you enjoy true romance and love your escapism this is a book for you!

JUST AMAZING.......

I love arranged or marriage of convenience plots. I like the heroine wasn't a cookie cutter (she was chubby), this plot had a lot of potential. I dont think the couple was challenged enough. Narrator was good. Susan Duerden & Carolyn Morris my favorite narrators.

Ok story

I enjoyed this book immensely and Mary Sarah did a very good job. The only thing that irritated me was her pronunciation of certain words - bark instead of back - forther instead of father and so on. It was the only blot on what was an enjoyable listening experience. Great shame, as I’m not sure I could put up with listening to her narrate again.

Enjoyed story.........shame about the narrator’s pronunciation

It took a while to get to grips with the story. The story line was a little disjointed. Overall worth listening to. There was no idea of attraction but duty to the marriage. Then suddenly it is about attraction on the Dukes part. When you have finished you feel it would have been better if certain aspects of the story were more thought out

A nice audio
