Summary

"He said if he hadn't heard from you by high noon today, he was going to strap on his six-guns and ride back into town. So I think you should call him, Charlie. Call him before you come home."

Charlie Hills, former desk sergeant at Kings Lake Central, is in trouble. He hasn't told Smith, his old friend and sparring partner, but someone has, and now the two former policemen are about to embark on a difficult and potentially dangerous search for the truth. For one of them, it could be life-changing.©2021 Peter Grainger

Fantastic storyline. Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Thank you. Brilliant narration as always. Hope there are more in the series. Highly recommended!

Didn’t disappoint!

Great story and beautifully narrated. DC’s transition from detective sergeant to private eye perhaps. Can’t wait for next book.

I expected to be disappointed by the D.C. character's change of lifestyle and being with a partner etc. But this author makes everything right ... with the main protagonist's articulate and strong dialogues, plus an unusually [by modern standards] sympathetic character in Jo, the life partner.
Just would like to not have the jarring strange American pronunciations by a very nice English-voiced narrator. [booey for buoy, and a few others]

I am a devoted fan of Gildart Jackson, and have thoroughly enjoyed the first 8 of Peter Grainger’s DC series.

However this book has been more of a Smith monologue and I really missed the banter from the previous books with Smith and his team.

I will listen to the last book in the series to complete it, but I do hope there are a few more characters in it. Mr Jackson’s brilliant narration and “doing voices” deserves more!

I agree with other reviews on reading/listening to these books in order. I have started again from the first audiobook so my partner can listen too. We’ve listened to other authors but he wasn’t keen on the gory content! He’s very happy with Mr Graingers DC Smith listens.
