This is a beautiful story, so well written by Wilkie Collins. There is something beautiful about the Victorian writing that always means so much more to me than modern day literature. I always learn so much from reading Charles Dickens, Willkie Collins and the Bronte's, and the stories seem to plant themselves in my memory for along time afterwards. The story is beautiful, gentle and pure escapism. The narrator's voice, Samuel West was perfect for this tale, such a wonderful voice that draws you into the story. I always believe that your path in life is meant to cross with certain people. I too believe in destinies. Thank you to Wilkie, your stories will be read for ever more and thank you to Sam West for the perfect narration. 🌸🦋

A Beautiful Tale So Beautifully Written

I thought nothing could compare with The Moonstone,
but each of his novels seems sublime.
Beautifully preformed and a story which will stay with me.

One of his best

This is one of those titles that makes a great argument for audiobooks. The story is predictable and melodramatic, the “hero” more than usually flawed (without the author showing awareness of that), but it’s deeply enjoyable, largely thanks to West’s excellent narration.

Flawed book, great performance

Collins writes beautifully here.
Amazing descriptive prose of settings.
West's narration is perfect and captivating.

Collin's usual supernatural ingredients keeps the readers attention but the weakness is the female character who is so frustrating and quite ridiculous in her behaviour and choices, even for Victorian standards.
The protagonist must have the patience of a saint to still be interested in her after her constant running away from him. Sheesh woman, get a grip.

Also the idea that they didn't once get the hint, or even question the fact that they may be long lost lovers from their youth is unbelievable.

This is a trait of most of Collin's novels however where he has a habit of writing in slightly vacant characters who don't seem to exercise much critical thinking or logical behaviour.

Beautiful writing, superb narration, frustrating and somewhat incredible.
