About this listen

One woman risks everything to end her family's centuries-old curse, solve her mother's disappearance, and find love in this mesmerizing novel from the bestselling author of Spells for Forgetting.

With The Unmaking of June Farrow, Adrienne Young delivers a brilliant story with romance, mystery, and a touch of the impossible: a story you will never forget.

In the small mountain town of Jasper, North Carolina, June Farrow is waiting for fate to find her. The Farrow women are known for their thriving flower farm - and the mysterious curse that has haunted them for generations.

The madness that led to Susanna Farrow's disappearance left her daughter, June, to be raised by her grandmother. Everyone in Jasper is certain it's only a matter of time before she finds the same end, but June has kept secret that her unravelling has already begun.

After her grandmother's death, June follows a series of clues that link her mother's disappearance to the town's dark history, leading finally to a mysterious door.

Behind it may lay the answer to the mysteries that have always lingered like a dark shadow. Upon crossing the threshold, June embarks on a journey that will not only change both the past and the future, but entangle her fate and her heart in a star-crossed love.

The narrator, my gosh she always sounded like she was about to cry. And I felt she slowed the pace down unnecessarily. I don’t like speeding up voices as it distorts the sound and ruins the experience. So I continued. I think if I physically read it maybe I would have rated the story closer to 3.75/5. Or maybe it was simply too overhyped and I was expecting too much…

I think the story itself was good. BUT I should have physically read it. I believe it would have been a great experience then.

Absolutely loved this story. So enjoyable, kept me guessing how it was going to end right until the end of the story

I liked the (audio)book, but I didn't love it. the pace was at times really slow and then picked up suddenly towards the end and everything was over in 1hr or so.

Without giving spoilers, the development of certain relationships also felt very rushed.

Good but could have been better

This was one of my most anticipated reads of last year, and I didn't get to read it until now. Before you judge me, let me explain! I bought the gorgeous special edition from Fairyloot with the beautiful edges, fanart, and signature, and I kept putting off reading it because I didn’t want to damage my pretty copy. I thought about getting the ebook or paperback, but they were just too pricey, so I ended up forgetting about it for a while.

Lately, I’ve been in a serious reading slump, and I was craving something spooky and witchy, so I remembered I had this book sitting on my shelf. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down! I finished it in less than 24 hours, even staying up past my bedtime because I was so hooked.

The story takes place in the small mountain town of Jasper, North Carolina, where June Farrow is dealing with her family’s mysterious curse and trying to uncover the truth behind her mother’s disappearance. The Farrow women are known for their flower farm, but they also carry the weight of their family’s dark history.

I loved how the mystery kept surprising me and making me gasp out loud (which was a little embarrassing on the train when the lady next to me wasn’t thrilled about it!). June hears whispers and sees things that aren’t there, and when she discovers clues about her mother’s past, it leads her on a journey that changes everything. Plus, there's a touch of romance that just adds to the magic of the story.

If you’re looking for a captivating read with a blend of mystery, magic, and a bit of romance, I totally recommend giving this one a shot! You won’t regret it.
