About this listen

Love is in the air in wartime England—but so is murder.

Crofter’s Green is abuzz with excitement. Seven young couples are preparing to say their vows at a Valentine's Day celebration—an event made even more thrilling by the expected arrival of a very important (and very secret) guest: the most famous woman in the world.

But when the beloved village curate is found dead just days before the ceremony, Harry is called in to investigate what looks suspiciously like murder. Then, in London, Evie and Nigel intercept a Norwegian spy’s cipher—and the dead curate’s name is hidden within it.

As the Homefront Sleuths race to uncover the truth, they're forced to ask: Which of the blushing brides is hiding a deadly secret? And can they stop a plot that could change the course of history—before vows are spoken and lives are lost?

Meanwhile, as love hangs in the air, Evie and Nigel must confront a question that’s far more personal—and one only Valentine’s Day may help them answer.

Packed with charm, suspense, and heart, The Valentine Cipher is a cozy mystery full of romantic twists and wartime secrets that will keep you guessing until the final toast. Perfect for fans of Agatha Christie and Jacqueline Winspear!

I’m a huge fan of the series - its characters, setting, mysteries and the narration. While the series is connected it’s not essential to have listened to all the others though I recommend them all.

The first book I nearly didn't read because I thought the narrators voice was deadly boring and pretty irritating. Once she started doing the characters voices, which were very good, I could continue with it. Now I think she's actual very good. I find myself forgetting it's a woman doing a male voice. There's great character development with some of the characters and the stories are good, if you suspend disbelief. I especially like the development of friendships and the romance between Nigel and Evie. Its a good series for people like me who are fed up with the gratuitous violence, which seems so extreme in a lot of TV and books. Its become ridiculous over the years. However I do find these stories and the wording, a little too cheesy at odd moments.

It's grown on me!

… but still get a little irked by the Americanisms that absolutely would not have been used in wartime Britain. Apart from that the stories are well researched and feel very authentic, whilst weaving in the great imagination of the aithors, they all keep me engaged and listen every chance I get.

I really enjoy these books…

Ive really enjoyed these books and hope they keep coming. They are well written, well read and clearly well researched. Although they are in the cosy crime genre and don't pretend to be otherwise they avoid the silliness and absurd story lines which the genre often descends to. I particularly like the characters and there is a warmth about the stories which makes a pleasant change from many of the books on offer
