About this listen

When Evie Nicholson is asked to visit Kettlesheer Castle in Scotland to archive the family heirlooms, she jumps at the chance. Evie's passion for antiques means that, for her, the castle is a treasure trove of mysteries just waiting to be uncovered.

But in each heirloom lies a story, and in the course of her investigations Evie stumbles upon some long-buried family secrets. Add handsome, gloomy heir Robert McAndrew and a traditional candlelit gala to the mix, and Evie's heart is sent reeling with an enthusiasm that may just extend beyond the Kettlesheer silver....

A fun, well written story with a relatable protagonist. McCarron’s accent slips a few times but not enough to be terribly confusing. Ending is a little abrupt, could have benefited from an epilogue.

A bit of fun

Fun, Scottish and old

What did you like best about this story?

Evie’s love of all things old and how Robert learned to humour her for it.

What about Cathleen McCarron’s performance did you like?

The emotion she put into the story was simply amazing. Although all the different voices were incredibly well done.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Does this question actually help people decide if they want the book?

The narration was good but I found the story a little far fetched. The ending was predictable but in a nice way. I did enjoy the book at the time, its an easy listen but I didn't find myself rushing to stick my earphones in at every possible opportunity. Was an enjoyable book but wasn't to disappointed when it was over.

Nice but slow going
