About this listen

Gunmen are terrorising young women in the Cathedral town of Lafferton. What - if anything - links the apparently random murders? Is the marksman with a rifle the same person as the killer with a handgun?

Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Serrailler falls back on well tried police methods such as questioning neighbours and house-to-house searches. Simon has been promoted and is now with the Serious Incident Flying Taskforce, but he is still at heart a loner and these chilly murders are on his home territory.

I found the main character very irritating and at times rather juvenile but there were plenty of good characters to make up for it.

Good story.

Very cleverly constructed, I didn’t guess whodunnit until the last minute. The benefit of writing a series is that Ms Hill can develop plot lines and characters, leaving each novel on a cliff hanger. Fortunately she avoids making her central character a two dimensional hero by creating an egotistical bastard. Other characters are a bit pastel however, especially the middle class ones. I can see what she was trying to do but some of the descriptive passages were over long

Well plotted

A good heart strong puller although not heavy on intrigue or plot twists. Excellent reading by SP

Good solid Susan Hill and Steven Pacey

I love listening to the stories of Stephen and the problems of Laverton. A can't wait to listen to the next in line.

Another well read book with a final twist at the end to unsettle the listener. Many facets to this novel.

Worthwhile and gripping
