Summary

From multi-million copy seller, K. L. Slater comes another breath-taking thriller, narrated by Claudia Jessie (star of Bridgerton & Line of Duty)

All she has to do is pretend to be his girlfriend…

Alicia has left her young son and sister to chase a better life in London. But she’s not just chasing opportunity, she’s running from the truth.

At the Orbit, an elite enclave towering above the city where the great and the good come to play, Alicia waits tables, watching everything.

When the charismatic owner of The Orbit offers her a deal - pretend to be her girlfriend in return for a salary and an apartment - Alicia accepts. After all, it’s only pretend … until it’s not.

Soon, Alicia is living the life she’s always dreamed of — but behind the flawless façade, something is deeply wrong and some deals cannot be broken. As her past begins to creep towards her, Alicia thought she was the only one playing a game.

It turns out she wasn’t alone…

Brilliant as always

I like that you didn’t know which way it was going to turn out and it keeps you guessing right to the end

Not K L Slater's best, but OK. It kept me listening to the end anyway.
Fairly standard domestic thriller with a woman in the lead part and in peril for herself and for her family.
Set mainly around a new London sky scraper called The Orbit.
Some underhand goings on as the dodgy owner competes with equally dodgy rival to win the bid for a similar construction in Manchester.

Domestic Thriller - OK

I felt it was slow until the last 3rd and a lot of repetition and rather predictable. I thought from early on both the male characters were going to come unstuck in some shocking way .

Looooong

I’ve listened to a few by KL Slater, this one must have been knocked out in a couple of days. It lacked any substance and was probably the worst I’ve read from her. The performance was okay but I don’t understand how two sisters who were brought up together had different accents

Not good
