Summary

Charles Holborne, maverick barrister, will never fit in at the bar—too working-class, too Jewish, and too dangerous—all of which makes him the perfect outsider to prosecute a murder case which will rock British justice to its foundations.

The newspapers call her "The Lady in the Lake", but those intimately involved had a different name for the body preserved perfectly for almost a decade: they named her "The Waxwork Corpse". But she's not the only thing to be raised from the past.

The investigation also dredges up with violent mistake made by Charles in his youth which, if revealed, may see him hanged.

The Waxwork Corpse, closely based on a real Old Bailey case, is the fifth crime novel in the exciting historical series of Charles Holborne legal thrillers–gritty, hard-boiled mysteries set in 1960s London.

Brilliant

This is the best of Simon MIchael's Charles Holborne thrillers to date.

I was gripped almost from start to finish; the exception being the interruptions to the story which include his miserable mother and ther forceful religious beliefs. Leave those out, which bring nothing to the table, and we are left with total perfection. I felt compelled to drop a star for those interjections.

(I am elated that Simon MIchael has stepped down as narrator of his books, an accomplished writer he may be, but a story teller he is not)

Colin Mace, as always, masterfully narrates and brings the book into vivid reality, it's almost as if I can actually visualise the characters and hear their conversations as a bystander would.

Please don't ever let this Michael / Mace partnership end! Simon - please continue to write and Colin - please continue to narrate.

Brilliant start to finish.

The twist was very predictable but, otherwise, very enjoyable.
Looking forward to the next instalment

Well narrated and a good listen

I’ve become so invested in the characters in this series as well as the court case. Superbly written and the narrator is fantastic, he truly brings the story to life.

FANTASTIC
