My only problem with this story is the assassins, otherwise the story is a lovely tale of personal growth. While the MC had an intense goal in the beginning, it ultimately evolved into something more. I was expecting something more brutal but it was ended up being very wholesome.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook.
The story strikes me as well written, and the storylines seemed to all nicely tie up by the end which was very satisfying.
There was lots of failing upward, character development, bad deeds being acknowledged as such, humor, all with a sprinkling of heartfelt romance.
The narrator also did a great job!

That this seems to be a one and done book, it has the opportunity to be more than just one book

This novel is a truly captivating piece of dark fantasy that lingers in your mind long after you’ve finished it. The writing is vivid and atmospheric, painting scenes that feel almost dreamlike at times, yet never losing clarity or direction. The pacing is steady, with just the right balance of suspense and revelation to keep you turning the pages.

Personally, it’s not what I expected, the growth and redemption arcs hit quite hard, I expected it to be your typical angsty protagonist, though traditionally male would have been interesting for a female, but, the world building and the characters themselves sort of just, captivate you, I really did just expect your traditional revenge plot but, I was pleasantly surprised.

The person reading this seemed to perfectly captivate every characters personalities. I’m not sure if this series has a volume 2 or not, however even as a one shot I think this story ended perfectly, would be interesting for a what if type sequel, but I’m content with what we have here.

I would recommend giving this book a try, I believe as of this date of review it’s free with a membership so there’s no reason not to at least give it a try.
