About this listen

The night's chaos left us breathless. Now the real nightmare begins.

A second dragon has awoken—her heart tainted and her power commandeered by two ruthless highbloods whose cruelty knows no bounds.

My dearest friend teetered on the brink of death. A dragon saved her, but now she's tied to him in a way I can scarcely understand. What will this new bond do to the woman I've come to love as a sister?

And then there's Blake. Once my relentless tormentor—he betrayed me again, nearly condemning Nyxaris to a cursed, stone-cold fate. Now, something has shifted in him. His gray eyes hide a secret he's desperate to keep.

I saved Blake's life, despite everything. Yet now my every heartbeat questions where we go from here.

With Bloodwing Academy in turmoil and a new headmaster no one saw coming, only one thing is certain: This is going to be one hell of a year.

At Bloodwing Academy, power comes with blood, and betrayal is as common as ambition. This dark fantasy series tackles mature themes. Listeners are advised to consult the trigger warnings before embarking on this intense, morally gray/black journey through the realm of Sangratha!

Overall, I’d give this 3.5 ⭐️

The multi POV, especially on audio made this chaotic. I was engaged in the other storylines and the narrators for Florence and Reagan were good. Especially intrigued by Florence and Nyxaris 👀

However Medra took a complete backseat, which made me care less about her story and her relationship with Blake felt rushed and didn’t ring true for me.

I still feel interested in the story, and I would like to know what happens with Florence and Reagan but wish this book had either only been from their perspective and we had more detail on their stories or was also from Medra but not Blake (I do understand why the author wanted to see it from his perspective but feel it took away from the intrigue). Although I don’t love the Medra narrator’s weird “British” accent- as someone from the UK it’s obviously not a real accent - why wouldn’t you just get a British person to narrate?! And I do feel the male narrator sounds way too old.

I do like these books but feel that maybe this one was a bit rushed which is a shame. But still a good time and if you enjoyed the first two then you will probably want to read this one too!

A chaotic next instalment

Although it is a while since the first two books, it is easy enough to pick up the key storyline, the plot and world building fairly straightforward, the prose and dialogue uncomplicated.
This book expands the number of POVs which definitely maintains engagement. Was interesting to hear Reagan's voice and how her character develops. Florence getting to know her dragon was fun (not sure where that is heading?!).
The first half definitely felt sluggish but then the pace and action picks up. There are a few dark themes (intense bullying, abuse and death) which, for me, were not given appropriate weight/gravitas, but that is not unusual in this genre.
I chose the audio version, particularly as it has 4 different narrators (switches between chapters), and feel this has affected my review rating. I am aware hard work and investment goes into producing audio books so, whilst I don't like to criticise, they they are a paid for product.
For me, the choice of a cringy received British accent absolutely grated throughout (I'm British). Whilst Florence and Reagan's narrator gave depth and tone, Blake unfortunately sounded too 'middle aged accountant'. It is fortunate Madras story takes more of a back seat because these chapters were really hard to listen to. The flat, nasal tone made it hard to pick out the different characters and I'm afraid the couple of spice scenes had the emotional impact of a shopping list being read out loud.

More POVs, good action ending

This is an exceptional book. Hooked from the off and now gutted to have to wait for book 4

I love how this book explored more of the characters with chapters coming from additional POVs like Florence and Regan.

It explores love, power, trauma, hope, despair, friendship, strength and courage.

The author writes so beautifully in a way that the book envelopes you and the ending left me breathless.

Gripping

The cliffhangers are good and I can’t wait for the next book. The story was great and the narrators were excellent as usual.

I love the character growth
