I found this novel educational, inspiring and also slightly depressing in the sense that the world must so often go to war to fight oppression- will humanity ever develop beyond this? The story itself contains graphic details of wartime violence and suffering, but for the most part I found it fascinating, entertaining and uplifting. Beautifully narrated by three different characters, the performances enhance the experience and kept me engaged with the three different time periods.
