Just outside Los Angeles, a prisoner hidden away for 70 years sits up, gets off the bed and disappears through a solid wall.

In Australia, a magician impresses audiences by producing real elephants. Nobody realizes it's not an illusion.

Across the world, individuals and ancient organizations with supernatural power suddenly detect the presence of something even they can't understand.

At the center of it all, Seb Varden, a 32-year old musician with a secret in his past, slits his wrists, is shot dead and run over on the freeway. He's had better days.

Seb is about to discover the universe is a far more complicated place than he'd ever imagined.

Quite how you get a job reading an audiobook with a key character from England, when you cannot do an English accent, is beyond me. It has made this book unbearable to listen to, however the story turns out. I'll buy a hard copy and hope the US accents in my head are better than this English one was in my ears.

Not for English audiences

The author has made new the modern world, powered by Mana, wielded by a few individuals, combining folk myths and conspiracy theories neatly and effectively. An excellent listen.

Interesting twist on Magic in the Modern World

Got this book after listening to the sample. It sounded interesting and it was. Reminded me a little of the Da Vinci Code, with shadowy organisations influencing the world and a man caught in the middle.

I read the reviews before buying and YES the British accent for the character Meera is REALLY terrible especially for a character that apparently grew up in East London. The voice made her character seem weak and unbelievable. There was also a female German character that likewise poor. It is mildly irritating but you get over it, see past it i guess and you focus on the story and this blip doesnt affect the overall story in my opinion. I felt I wanted to get to the end as it was a curious tale and you wanted to find out what happened despite apparent insurmountable odds

So yes it was worth a listen considering it was by an author i've never heard of before.

Worth a listen
