About this listen

Sexual abuse knows no religious or social boundaries. The Wounded Heart is an intensely personal and specific look at this form of abuse. Dr. Allender explores the secret lament of the soul damaged by sexual abuse and lays hold of the hope buried there by the One whose unstained image we all bear. Includes information about false memory issues.

Although not terribly religious, I am a Christian and have been moved by the authors incorporation of gods word. it is very rare to come across a therapist to do so. I winced and was horrified by some of the clarity which was sensitively and courageously written.
I will listen again.

This book is both insightful and deeply informative. The detailed explanations of the different forms of abuse were eye‑opening—at times distressing enough to bring me close to tears—but they effectively highlight the severity of the harm caused and the urgency of addressing it. The reminder that abuse can occur anywhere reinforces the need for intentional, proactive safeguarding.
I especially appreciated the compassionate and tender approach to supporting victims. The author handles the subject with sensitivity, offering guidance that is both practical and empathetic. My greatest takeaway is the clarity provided in recognising the signs of abuse and understanding how to support victims throughout their healing journey. This book is an important and powerful resource for anyone committed to creating safer environments and offering meaningful support to those who have been harmed.
