About this listen

A sumptuous and epically told love story inspired by A Thousand and One Nights

Every dawn brings horror to a different family in a land ruled by a killer. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, takes a new bride each night only to have her executed at sunrise. So it is a suspicious surprise when sixteen-year-old Shahrzad volunteers to marry Khalid. But she does so with a clever plan to stay alive and exact revenge on the Caliph for the murder of her best friend and countless other girls. Shazi’s wit and will, indeed, get her through to the dawn that no others have seen, but with a catch . . . she’s falling in love with the very boy who killed her dearest friend.

She discovers that the murderous boy-king is not all that he seems and neither are the deaths of so many girls. Shazi is determined to uncover the reason for the murders and to break the cycle once and for all.

I loved the story and the slow development in the relationship between the main characters. I couldn't understand how a person who was killing women daily deserved someone who loved him but I found my answers...
I didn't know though that it wasn't a standalone book and when it finished it was like "where is the rest...?"
The narrator has done it great, the only BUT it would be that she was changing the volume of her voice all the time, which is very nice for the interpretation, but not for my ears... I had to be controlling the volume settings every minute.

Lovely story

The narrator was monotonous. The story (a retelling if 1001 nights) was enjoyable barring some terrible dialogue, lazy descriptions and poorly developed characters.

Passable story. Terrible narrator.

This broke my heart like 8 times, trust me you’ll love this
The narrator does justice to the ambience of an Arabian Nights story and i was worried about the pronunciation since sometimes they get it wrong, but once I started I was totally impressed - the whole experience couldn’t be better

Everything you want in anArabian Nights updo

eh, story follows the same teenage angst as most do nowadays but I did like the retelling of this classic tale.

Same general teenage angst
